Anybody know where the family template files are located now? It says I already have it installed, so I decided to uninstall and do a complete reinstall.
Attached is the error it gives me when I try to uninstall. Any suggestions? It said my content was already installed, although it was not physically there, and wouldn't let me un install it. My mistake was using the download from the subscription page, I have requested physical media for all of our products. I downloaded the Revit trial and it definately worked better than the subscription download, but still some content missing.
My money is on the physical media being the most stable intall, until then, I think I have what I need. At this point, it appears that the main problem is your inability to uninstall the Revit Content Libraries so let's concentrate on that first. Based on your screen capture, it appears you are trying to uninstall it through the Windows Control Panel.
My first suggestion would be to try using the Autodesk Uninstall Tool to remove it. This uninstall tool uses a slightly different uninstall process and may function properly even when the other uninstall option fails. If you still can't get it to uninstall using that tool, my next suggestion would be to manually uninstall it by opening a Windows command prompt, entering the following string and pressing ENTER: MsiExec.
Once you have the original Revit Content Libraries uninstalled, launch the Revit installer again and it should allow you to install Revit content again.
When you get to this stage, make sure you have an active internet connection because some of the Revit content may need to be downloaded during the installation process. I should have been more clear, once I downloaded the Revit trial installer file, it did un-install the content.
Then I re-installed it with that same trial installer. This was a better result, but the issues I had with the trial in lieu of the BDS subscription installer were as follows: 1. But I have downloaded those installers separately and got them all on my computer now, awesome!
So for me at least, this case is closed, not solved, but closed. I will use the physical media to install the rest of the office's software after a couple weeks of trial. I am having the exact same problem. Cannot find family templates.
I thought i would just uninstall and reinstall, but i cannot uninstall with the autodesk uninstaller or control panel. I have tried everything posted on this board and have had no luck.
For those of you encountering problems attempting to uninstall Revit , I would recommend manually uninstalling the components. Here is a list of the appropriate strings for the Revit components: Revit - MsiExec. Once you have each of the components uninstalled, you should be able to launch the installer and reinstall each. As far as scenarios where the installation completes successfully but no content is created, this typically occurs when the content download fails.
Here I would recommend the following steps: 1. At the Add or Remove Content page, disable the checkboxes for each content pack, then click Next. When the updating process is complete, click Finish. Repeat steps 1 through 3. At the Add or Remove Content page, enable the checkboxes for each content pack that you want to install, then click Next.
The key is to remove all content before attempting to reinstall it. This is necessary because you are currently in a state where Revit is incorrectly under the impression that content installed properly. Steps 1 through 5 get you back to a state where Revit is aware that no content is installed and subsequent attempts to add content should be successful. Please note that you have to have an active internet connection when running through these steps because some Revit content may need to be downloaded during this process.
I also recommend disabling any anti-virus software during this process to ensure that it does not block the download of Revit content. This is a similar issue I am having with Revit , and why I am reluctant to upgrade to even though I have bought the subscription. The Revit template files did not load with my install, I see from these comment pages is a common issue with other versions of Revit.
Referring us back to the reseller is a copout. This is an installation issue with Autodesk which you need to direct us how to solve. Please direct me where, on the Autodesk web site, etc. Why not give us the option of just downloading the template files and avoid the reinstall process? These are just templates, that the program does not need to necessarily know are present to function property , that we can store in our library subdirectory and go to when we need a template.
Autodesk should do the same thing they did with the sample project folder, they put it on the big R menu. Just reading the steps you listed is taking more time than I want to spend on this. I've already re-installed 3 times before getting to this point and the install times were glacial to boot. Can we just have something that works? What if my firm had seats? I've copied the content from which works fine except that I've got to wait each time a component needs to be updated to Would you just post the content somewhere until you can get a fix?
We don't have time for this uninstall and reinstall business Additionally if your company had seats, your content would be centrally located so installing it once would make it available to all users.
You can also request Phyiscal Media a DVD or memory stick that contains your Autodesk products from your reseller, so that you have all the content on the media rather than having to download it.
